Further Details about Test Point Groups in GAGEtrak 7
As a continuation of our last quick tip, this tip will go a bit more in depth using a 6 inch caliper.
The Test Points for this basic gage might appear to be as simple as those of the micrometer; however, a complete testing of the gage is involved. The testing requirements for a caliper include but are not limited to: overall condition, parallelism (inside and outside jaws) and measurements of the inside jaws, outside jaws and depth gage. The overall tolerances for this company’s calipers are +/- .001, with looser tolerance on the depth gage of +/- .01, resolution .0005. There must be three measurements across the range of the gage for each jaw and depth, not including 0 or 6 inches.
Start by creating a new Test Point Group. Fill in the gage’s specifications as shown here:

Now enter the first 3 Test Points. These are the visual checks for overall condition and parallelism and are all Type Attribute:

The inside jaws, outside jaws and depth rod each require 3 Test Points. The following Prefill forms demonstrate how to fill them in. Outside jaws require 3 measurements, 2 inches apart. The numbering must pick up after the last Test Point.

Following is the structure for the inside jaws:

Following is the structure for the depth gage. Notice the custom tolerances.

We have created 12 Test Points for this caliper, have been able to add different sequences of specification and have customized tolerances.
Multi-meters and step torque wrenches have ranges. Each range may require unique tolerances and master gages. Test Points give you the opportunity to customize each measurement requirement.
This completes creating Test Points. Once complete, a Test Point Group can be linked to as many gages as needed.
One major topic which has not yet been addressed is linking master gages to test points. There will be a future Tech Tip on entering master gages and then associating them to specific working gages. The association is accomplished within Test Points, so the Test Point Groups will be briefly revisited in that tech tip.
We encourage you to explore the additional capabilities of your GAGEtrak software and as always, keep an eye out for future Tech Tips.
